People like Marianne Means just don’t get it:
The oddest thing about Palin’s candidacy is that motherhood has suddenly moved into a top priority for political leadership. This is brand new, and a reflection of the fact her religious-right supporters want to promote her “family values,” which differ from the standards of the past.
Marianne and many hard-left Democrats just don’t understand why Sarah Palin is so popular. They’re trying hard to figure it out, but their explanations are so backwards. It’s not that “motherhood has suddenly moved into a top priority for political leadership”. America loves Sarah because Sarah is America. Hard-left Democrats tried to disqualify Sarah Palin because she is the mother of five children, including young Trig. That is sexist. Republicans, being the more “Pro-woman” party, have not disqualified Sarah Palin because she is a mother. Her motherhood is not “a top priority for political leadership” as Marianne claims, but it also is not a disqualifier.
If Marianne Means considers herself a feminist, she should be cheering Sarah Palin.
