Communists and “The Children”

The IOC award to Beijing offended many, especially after China decided to house Olympic delegations at Tienanmen Square, where they slaughtered democracy activists less than 20 years ago.

While I’ve generaly liked the coverage so far, NBC’s been a little creepy at times. The ‘guarantor of the children’s future’ statement during the opening ceremonies and the weird excitement about doing the nighly news from Tienamen have been the two worst examples.

Yes, that statement, the transition of the flag from the children to the goose-stepping military, and the militaristic intimidation inherent in their thousands of synchronized war drummers were more than just a little bit creepy.

But you know what else that statement reminds me of?
All of the references to children in Nancy Pelosi’s first speech as Speaker and the Democrats (Democratic Socialists) “A NEW DIRECTION FOR AMERICA“.

Update: there’s also this quote, which sure sounds like government as ‘guarantor of the children’s future’ to me…

“For too long, America’s children have come in last in the competition for government investments.  For too long, we have allowed outdated ways of thinking to determine our policies regarding our children.  And for too long, there has been not enough political will to make children our number one priority in our work here in Congress.

I pledge to you today that those days are over.  We take seriously our responsibility to America’s future – our children.  As the brilliant author and activist Pearl S. Buck said: ‘If our American way of life fails the child, it fails us all.’  Today, we commit to ensuring our children are given the tools they need to succeed.”
Speaker Pelosi, 5/22/07

All I can say is it is time for Nancy to go. For someone who claims to be Catholic, she has some antiCatholic ides. The last I checked, Communism is not part of church doctrine.

  2. Susan,
    Thanks for your comment.

“claims” is the key word there, and I don’t believe her claims when she has repeatedly claimed to quote a verse that isn’t even in the Bible!

Most Democratic Socialists only “pretend” to be Christian, because they can’t win without deceiving some Christians into voting for them. Since 1900, only two Democratic Socialists have received a larger percentage than Evangelical Christian President George W. Bush received in 2004. And if you discount the 1964 election (because the country was looking for stability in the wake of the JFK assassination), then you’re down to only one who did better than “W.” did in 2004… FDR.
