…great joy…to all people…

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them,

“Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

A Brutal, Communistic World Government

…I asked him whether the draft Copenhagen Treaty’s proposal for what amounted to a communistic world government reminded him of the Communism under which he and his country had suffered for so long.

He thought for a moment – as statesmen always do before answering an unusual question – and said, “Maybe it is not brutal. But in all other respects, what it proposes is far too close to Communism for comfort.”

Today, as I lay in the snow with a cut knee, a bruised back, a banged head, a ruined suit, and a written-off coat, I wondered whether the brutality of the New World Order was moving closer than President Klaus – or any of us – had realized.

Actually the “New World Order” is nothing new. How do you win the battle against the Evil Empire? Reagan knew.

Who Said It?

As the Democrats in Washington, D.C. prepare to to raise the national debt limit — a requirement for the Obama administration’s spending plans — it’s worth remembering who said this:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies.

And the cost of our debt is one of the fastest growing expenses in the Federal budget. This rising debt is a hidden domestic enemy, robbing our cities and States of critical investments in infrastructure like bridges, ports, and levees; robbing our families and our children of critical investments in education and health care reform; robbing our seniors of the retirement and health security they have counted on.

Every dollar we pay in interest is a dollar that is not going to investment in America’s priorities. Instead, interest payments are a significant tax on all Americans–a debt tax that Washington doesn’t want to talk about. If Washington were serious about honest tax relief in this country, we would see an effort to reduce our national debt by returning to responsible fiscal policies.

Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here.” Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.

He who corrects a scoffer…

I’ve read the following before, but it had new meaning for me when I read it today:

He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself,
And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.

Proverbs 9:7

When I read that, I felt convicted that I have, in responding to the comments of some, attempted to correct a scoffer. And I have no desire to bring shame or harm upon myself.

As a result, I am rethinking what I want to do with this blog. I still want to help teach others Biblical truth, but I don’t want to correct scoffers. And I don’t necessarily want to just let scoffers’ comments appear without any response. Yet I don’t want to ban people just for disagreeing with me. Of course, people can disagree without being “scoffers”, but discerning between the two could be subjective, and perceived as being arbitrary. I could also block comments completely, and just let posts stand on their own, but there is a certain value in healthy discussion in the comment section. And the verses that follow the one above do encourage giving instruction and teaching to the wise and just.

Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you;
Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
For by me your days will be multiplied,
And years of life will be added to you.
If you are wise, you are wise for yourself,
And if you scoff, you will bear it alone.”

Proverbs 9:8-12

I’m not exactly sure at the moment what direction I will take. But I do know for sure that I do not want to correct scoffers.

Keep Us, Deliver Us, From Evil

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.

1 Chronicles 4:10

In this manner, therefore, pray:
